The Enagic® SD 501 ranked favorably among all the machines we tested. The SD501 features a 7 plate system, which uses flat plates. Unfortunately, Enagic® does not currently offer MESH plate technology. Overall it lags technology-wise behind other systems we tested. We liked the fact that it has 245 watts of power, but the system is handicapped because it uses a transformer to power the machine. The SD 501 is able to reach pH and ORP readings that would be expected by a higher end ionizer, unfortunately, you have to use chemical enhancers to achieve these very high and low pH levels. The pricing of the SD 501 gave us sticker shock; it is priced at $3,980.00 – far higher than many comparable systems tested. The return policy is only 3 days and then after that you have a large return fee. We are leery of the MLM (multi level marketing) structure that the machine is sold through, as it probably runs up the price of the machine. We are concerned that the technology used in this machine is going to become rapidly outdated. It would be smart for Enagic® (Kangen®) if that sometime soon they update the SD501 with some of the newer more efficient ionizer technologies available.
