Overall the AlkaFresh MiniMAX appears to be a great mid-range model. The fact that it is a smaller unit for people with limited counter space is a plus. It comes equipped with the latest advanced technologies like MESH plates and an SMPS power system. This machine proved to provide useful pH settings as well as low ORP readings. The machine comes with large dual filters to provide great internal purification. They appear to have licensed the Vitamin C Ceramic Block Filter Technology from another manufacturer. This will be helpful to reduce contaminants and reduce chlorine and chloramines (chlorine + ammonia) which is found in 30% of municipal water sources. The machine comes in two colors and the materials appear to be heavier and of higher quality than all of the other mid-range models examined. Upon opening the machine, our technicians informed us that the electronics and circuitry were advanced and of high quality. Also, to top that off you have a seven (7) warranty on all parts and labor, so in our opinion this machine is fine for people with small kitchens that don’t need a high performance machine for health issues.

We liked the fact that they offer both flat and true MESH plates as well as an optional UV disinfecting light to kill off bacteria. This machine proved to be very strong and was able to reach very high pH settings as well as consistently low ORP readings. LIFE does charge slightly more for MESH plates and the UV light, however, the machine is already reasonably priced at $2997.00 since it is sold through direct sales and not an MLM (multi level marketing).

The LIFE 8100 proved to be the most technologically advanced and efficient of the under counter machines that we tested. The LIFE 8100 is the under counter version of the LIFE 7600 and produces exactly the same so if you are deciding between an under counter or counter top unit it really just comes down to personal preference. Having just the 8100 faucet on your sink instead of the entire machine does make usage very convenient and aesthetically looks a lot better as well. The other plus of this machine is that you can actually detach the unit from under your sink and use it as a counter top unit if you were to travel. The LIE 8100 comes with a 10 year warranty so in our opinion just like the 7600 you are getting a lot for you money.

Although priced high at $2097.00, the Jupiter Athena should be looked at as a mid-range quality ionizer. It is solidly built and has proven to be a reliable ionizer over the years. However, it’s lack of power and plates cause for not quite as strong an ionization as some of the other machines in this price range like the LIFE 7600 and Tyent 7070 Turbo. It is important to remember that the strength of ionization is dependent on a ratio between the amount of power and power type, plate size (amount of time the water spends on the plates) and flow rate. So with only 5 plates and 105 watts that is ultimately what led to only a two star rating. The Jupiter Athena does have a strong company backing though.

With not that many true under counter ionizers available, the Delphi was the only other machine besides the LIFE 8100 that we felt was a quality enough machine to review. However, it’s lack of power and plates cause for not quite as strong an ionization as some of the other machines in this price range like the LIFE 8100.

Overall the Enagic SD 501 ranked toward the top of all the machines we tested. This machine has a lot of power and 7 plates that make up for not having some of the newer technologies available in ionization. However, the machine is still able to reach pH and ORP readings that would be expected by a higher end ionizer. Unfortunately, we are not a fan of the fact you have to use chemical enhancers to achieve these very high and low pH levels. The main drawback of this machine is the very high price tag of $3,980.00 which is due to the MLM (multi level marketing) structure that the machine is sold through. It would be smart for Enagic (Kangen) if that sometime soon they update the SD501 with some of the newer more efficient ionizer technologies available.

This company’s machine, although not as modern looking as some of the others, uses the SMPS power system and this is a plus. Another plus for the machine is that it has an under sink adapter kit. The only drawback in this unit is that there is only one filter. Review the details and see if this unit fulfils your needs.

The KYK Genesis is a good mid-range ionizer that will give you decent pH and ORP readings. We really like the fact that they have recently upgraded the Genesis to 7 plates from 5. However, the only thing they upgraded were the number of plates and nothing else. Therefore, you are left with a machine that is a bit lacking in the power area. If they had upgraded the power from the 150 watt max currently available, this machine would possess the power to give a strong ionization and would have earned a couple more stars. The KYK Genesis has a lower price tag of $1695, however, the high filter cost quickly makes up for the immediate savings. Overall this machine should be looked at as a mid-range ionizer that could use some upgrades to move it up to the higher-end models.
